FAQs

What software do I need to use for video therapy?

All video calls are conducted using Google Meet. Google Meet is encrypted in transit by default between you, me and Google for video meetings on a web browser, on the Meet Android and Apple® iOS® apps, and in meeting rooms with Google meeting room hardware. Google Meet adheres to Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) security standards for Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) and Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP).

I recommend using Google Meet from a laptop or desktop computer, in which case there is no need to have a Gmail or Google account. If you are accessing Google Meet from a mobile device or tablet you will need to download the Google Meet app and have a Google account (but there is no need to have a Gmail account).

How much does therapy cost?

Initial assessment: £120

CBT sessions: £100 per hour

(occasionally, 90-minute therapy sessions may be required, at a cost of £120)

EMDR: £120 for a 90 minute session.

How confidential will the therapy sessions be?

Confidentiality and secure protection of your personal data is of utmost importance.  Your personal data will be held and processed in full compliance with GDPR, using a system designed for therapy and healthcare practices.  The system has two-factor authentication (2FA) and runs on 256 bit SSL encryption. For more information about security and privacy please see our privacy notice at the bottom of this website. What is shared during your therapy sessions remains confidential. There may be instances when the limits of confidentiality would need to be extended, such as if I became seriously concerned about any harm being posed to you or others (including children). In such cases I would endeavour to discuss this with you first. Please note that our privacy notice applies to all communications with NM Therapy, including messages via the contact form on this website.  NM Therapy is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration no.ZA799280.

How many sessions will I need?

How long does a therapy session last?

Initial assessments usually last between 60 and 90 minutes.

Each therapy session lasts for 60 minutes, or 90 minutes on occasions. We will agree session length following initial assessment, provided CBT or EMDR are determined to be suitable therapeutic options for your needs.

How do I book a session?

Suitability for therapy will be determined following an initial assessment. If you would like to book an initial assessment please contact me via the contact form on this website. I will aim to respond to you as soon as possible to take some further details, have a brief discussion, and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions. This first brief discussion will be free, and from here we will arrange an initial assessment to further discuss your difficulties and to consider treatment options.  The cost of the initial assessment will be £85.

Once we have decided options of treatment and whether NM Therapy can help you we will arrange a suitable day and time for you to start your therapy sessions.

IS CBT or EMDR for me?
The initial assessment is to discuss current difficulties and to determine whether you would benefit from the therapies offered. CBT and EMDR may not suit everyone and should we decide that the forms of therapy offered do not best suit your needs then I will prepare an assessment summary letter, formulating current difficulties with a rationale for, and the recommendation of, alternative therapeutic options. CBT and EMDR are short term forms of psychotherapy and for some, longer term therapy may be recommended.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Unless agreed otherwise, appointments will occur once a week at a specified time that is convenient for both of us.

If you are unable to attend an appointment and you let me know at least 48 hours in advance, there would be no cancellation fee and therapy sessions can resume the following week (or as otherwise agreed).  Appointments that are cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice will incur a £10 cancellation fee, and the remainder of any session fee that you have paid will be refunded (or applied to the next therapy session if you would prefer).

How do I pay for a session?

Payment for each session will need to be made in advance by online bank transfer. Payment will need to be received by NM Therapy no later than 48 hours prior to the time of the session. We reserve the right to cancel the session if payment is not received within that timeframe.
